5texan utility woodJan 21, 2008

Glad I bought it. Thought that, for the price, it was worth the risk. (Shipping cost more than the club.) Have played with it twice hitting from the tee and on the fairway. Am very impressed - it hits straight and long for me. Much better than some clubs I have relegated to the back of the closet that cost much more.

Am so glad i bought it, i love using it better than my driver it's so forgiving straight and long shots. I even don't make a full swing because if i do i may hit the ball way too far it's that great. U know what? buy it and u'll know what am talking about i feel like a pro when am out on the course. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!

5Awesome for the price!Sep 30, 2009
By Nathan Beauchamp "ConsumerAdvocate"
My friend Jon who is new(er) to golf and had never used a hybrid before was admiring my Adams rescue 4-hybrid (which I love) and wanted a comparable club for his bag without spending a bunch of money. I said I'd see if I could find him a used one but before I could get to Play-it-Again I hopped on Amazon and found this Texan Classic. I figured for the price it would be worth a try and bought one for Jon. It arrived a few days later. Jon and I took it to a little nine-hole course (Columbus Park in Chicago) to put it through its paces. We took turns hitting a few balls with it and it worked fantastically well. I hit it alongside my much more expensive Adams club and hit it just about the same. The Texan has a little less loft than my Adams, but hit the ball just as far. It's easy to make solid contact with this club. The shaft is pretty quality for a low $$$ club! I'd hit this club happily myself. The forged steel head isn't quite a nice as a more expensive club, and the surface of the contact side of the club is just barely noticeably irregular where it's attached to the back of the head, but that's a minor complaint.

Overall this is a great club for the money and if you need a rescue wood or hybrid you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal. The shipping seems really high (more than the cost of the club!) but even with shipping it's still a steal.

1Buyer Beware!Jan 10, 2010

There's no worse feeling than having your club head fly off at your local driving range! I didn't think this was even possible. NOT ENOUGH GLUE OR SOMETHING...? I always read reviews before making purchases, but I was duped on this one. The price is tempting, but save your money and buy a REAL hybrid club!

1Clubhead falls off first time on course?Jul 09, 2011
By L. Schuman
OK - my own fault as by now, I know you get what you pay for. On this basis, buying a $20 hybrid is more experiment than sensible purchase. But based on prior reviews, I thought, why not?

Here's why not: I received the club on Wednesday, put it in my bag and went to the course on Thursday. Looks like a Taylormade Rescue, but with really poor detail. Well, looks don't get the ball down the course, and it was $20, so who cares, right?

First shot, nicely impressed...second shot, the same. Third shot, I feel something...odd. Ball pops straight up in the air at almost a 90 degree angle to my lie. Look at the club, and there's the answer. Clubhead is an inch down the shaft from the ferrule, and with the slightest tug, it pops right off. So much for the experiment.

Maybe I'm crazy, but there's just no excuse for a clubhead falling off within three shots; six swings total with practice. None. Zero. I'm surprised it actually made it through shipping without coming off. Maybe they used cornstarch to glue this on instead of epoxy? Who knows. The only saving grace is that I hadn't yet thrown away the box, so it was easy to return this dismal thing.
