Mens Golf Irons
Irons are numbered from 1 to 10, with 1 having the longest shaft and 10 having the shortest. A typical set of clubs will just include the 3-9 irons, but the others can be purchased individually if desired. Some manufacturers even make half-step irons.
Any would-be golfer should get comfortable with several of the irons, especially the shorter ones like 6-9. Longer irons can always be substituted with a fairway or rescue wood if desired, but there's no substitute for shots requiring 180 yards of distance or less.
A short iron such as the 9, is probably the easiest iron to develop accuracy with from 80 to 120 yards out, depending on how fast you swing the club. Generally when using irons you will place the ball in the center of your stance. You want to strike the ball with a club face that is 6° open or less. Too open and you'll slice the ball to the right. Too closed and you'll hook the ball left of target. Please go here for more swing tips.
A 9 iron is a good club to practice your swing and develop accuracy with, but choose one that you feel comfortable with and then practice...practice...practice!
A well-placed approach shot with an iron can leave you with a short putt for par or better, so take the time to develop skill on your irons. It could be the difference between a good round and a lousy round.
Good luck in your search for the right mens golf irons.
