Mens Golf Wedges
The wedge is the wonder club of golf - you'll "wonder" how you ever got along without one. Seriously, mastery of the wedge around the green is critical if you want to shave strokes off your score. Pros use the wedge from 90 or more yards out on occassion, but personally I use a wedge from just outside the green, when I need pinpoint accuracy and a soft landing near the cup.
Wedges generally have a pitch angle of 52 to 68 degrees, meaning they impart more backspin on the ball and launch the ball at a higher trajectory. This allows for a soft touchdown with very little roll-out.
A pitching wedge is a great club to use when you're between 10 and 90 yards from the green. Conversely, a sand wedge is choice when your ball lies less than 10 yards from the green - and also for sand shots, of course. A sand wedge will not send the ball a great distance, so make sure you swing with enough force to drive the ball the appropriate distance. Practice your sand wedge shots religiously. I practice indoors year-round hitting golf balls into the laundry hamper with my sand wedge.
Skill with a good wedge can make or break your short game. Take the time to develop the "touch" required to make accurate wedge shots. Feel the weight of the clubhead, and let the sole carry the club through the ball. Don't chop at the ball - follow through, and let the natural loft of the wedge lift the ball into the air.
Most golf club sets do NOT come with a pitching wedge or sand wedge, so you'll need to purchase one separately. They can be had for as little as $19 or as much as $199.
Good luck in your search for the right mens golf wedges.
